Raleigh Homeowner

Project: 30,000 gallon rainwater tank
Location: Raleigh, NC
Date: February 2008
Annual water savings: 250,000 gallons
Project length: 10 days

This inside the beltline home needed a lot of water, and relying on city supplied reserves was not an option. After months of planning, GH installed a fully integrated well/rainwater system. In a feat of engineering, GH and its partners installed a 30,000 gallon modular rain tank system in the front yard of this historic Raleigh home. The system collects over 250,000 gallons of run-off from the gutters and driveways. In the unlikely event that the tank gets low, a well provides back-up water on demand. This system gives total independence from Raleigh’s potable water resources.

Rainwater harvesting can be applied on almost any scale - from a few hundred gallon sustems for watering the yard, to complete water independence. Check out our rainwater harvesting pages to learn how you can take steps to protect our most prescious resource.
